What more of an interesting merger of styles can it get except to blend Celtic and Punk together. That’s the tire marks of the Dropkick Murphys. Hailing from Massachusetts, and originating in 1996, Dropkick Murphys have released 11 albums including the last – This Machine Still Kills Fascists. Recorded using the lyrics of Woody Guthrie, a folk hero of much note in Americana, Dropkick Murphys uses their skills to record an acoustic and country-flavored set. But as they say, one is never enough.
On May 12, Dropkick Murphys will return with a new album, a continuation of the Woody Guthrie works, to be called Okemah Rising. This new set will feature 10 new tracks, some with collaborations by the likes of Violent Femmes, Jesse Ahern, and Jaime Wyatt. As a extra treat, the grandson of Woody Guthrie, Cole Quest, who plays dobro guitar and assists with backing vocals. As a remembrance, Woody Guthrie is the Folk activist who wrote the popular “This Land Is Your Land”.
Okemah Rising will be the last album of the Guthrie set. It is going to be released on CD, DD, and vinyl LP. A Limited Edition with Grey/White Sunburst coloring press, will add in a bonus 7″ vinyl single with “Barroom Hero” b/w “Skinhead on MTBA” (acoustic live). A bonus track will also be included on this set – “Talking Hard Work”.
