Split Enz gained a worldwide fame with the release of their fifth album, True Colours in 1980. That album was the home for their big hit, “I Got You”, which drove the ball out of the park with its pop/rock quirkiness at the developing period of New Wave. By 1984, with Neil Finn’s career growing and leading to Crowded House (“Don’t Dream It’s Over”), Split Enz finished their last album, See Ya ‘Round and left the stage.
True Colours was released with eight color combinations for cover art (take THAT, collectors!). 2020 marks the album’s 40th Anniversary and is being celebrated with a special issue of the LP pressed in four colors of vinyl (green, blue, yellow, orange) and housed in one of four various covers. The covers will be released in the original first four sleeve color combinations (yellow/blue, red/green, purple/yellow, blue/orange) (BAM! Take that again, collectors!). The tracks have been remixed by Eddie Rayner, who has revealed he used the original 1979 stereo mix for this project.
The CD version will include a collection of unreleased tracks in live settings. A collectible picture disc LP will be made available as well! Will the 40th Anniversary reissue of the vinyl LP be etched?
The 40th Anniversary of True Colours will be issued on CD, DD, 4 color vinyl LPs (in different sleeve color combinations – see below), Picture Disc LP and are all on the calendar for July 31.
