Steve Miller, a classic performer from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s will be joining the ranks of Neil Young with a deep foray into his archival vaults. There are over fifteen studio albums that include unforgettable gems like The Joker (1973), Fly Like An Eagle (1976), Book of Dreams (1977), and Abracadabra (1982) from which ten Top 25 singles originated. It’s no surprise to discover that Steve Miller has stockpiled a treasure trove of recordings from those periods. It’s equally nice to find that Steve Miller will be offering us a deep dip into those archives with an upcoming 3CD/1DVD Box filled with 52 tracks, 38 of them previously unreleased stuff. Ranging from demos, rehearsal and outtake tracks, alternate cuts, live performances, and five discovered original Steve Miller Band songs from the ’60s and ’70s.
On October 11, Capitol Records will release the 3CD/DVD Box along with a 100-page hardbound book filled with essays, notes, photos, artifacts, and complete credits. The DVD provides videos from Miller’s appearance at Monterey Pop in 1967, two performances from The Fillmore West in 1970 for a Dutch TV program, eleven performances for a 1973 Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert airing, a 1973 ABC In Concert performance, one from a 1982 performance at Pine Knob, MI, two 1990 performance cuts from Fat Tuesday’s, and two performance tracks from a 2011 Austin City Limits airing. The Boxed set will be called Welcome To The Vault. The box completes with a collection of guitar picks, a backstage pass replica, and what appears to be a poster and four photo cards.
Welcome To The Vault will also be issued digitally as a 52 track collection.
