The news is being broadcast (by Roger Waters, in an off-hand remark) that there will be a 5.1 Surround version of one of Pink Floyd‘s most under-represented albums (in my own opinion), Animals. For years, many of Pink Floyd’s albums have received expanded attention. Animals languished despite having a strong following. (Thanks to Steve Talia for this IMWAN tip-off.)

There is little to offer other than a bi of news to let you know it’s likely coming sooner rather than later. Apparently, new Battersea shots have been taken for the reissue.

Personally, I’m not a 5.1 adherent. The original was recorded and mixed by the band with Stereo in mind, and while there may have been thoughts of an expanded soundstage, they all come well after the original issue, and often not by the band oversight. I then becomes a work of somewhat else, like a remix becomes for some songs. They’re interesting, but ultimately fall away.

Now, having said that, I do NOT mind that things release in a 5.1 Surround mix for those that love them. Just call me indifferent. And, if there are updated HD tracks, then I’m vastly interested!

To be continued when more information and release dates come closer.
