The music site, Ultimate Classic Rock, is reporting that Rush will revisit their 1974 debut, the self-titled classic, in a 40th Anniversary set.  This news was initially mentioned by Canada’s news, The Globe and Mail.  As stated by the author in the Ultimate Classic Rock site, there is no hint as to what the reissue will bring, or even how it will be presented (remastered, etc), however, when you look at how Rush, and their labels have been doing it in the past with other Rush classics, it’s likely quite safe to say that it will be a momentous re-release of one of the band’s early works.

The article goes on to say that Anniversary sets of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (which we already knew)  by Elton John, Crime Of The Century by Supertramp, and a KISS archival issue were titles on tap for a 2014 release.

The great unread part is this: If Supertramp‘s Crime Of The Century is slated for a Deluxe Edition reissue, then it’s a sure bet that Breakfast In America will follow not long afterwards.  Now, if we can just stop the infighting and get Supertramp to produce a proper tour.

  1. While I am excited and filled with anticipation about a deluxe re-issue of the first Rush album, I must admit that I find it a bit perplexing. You would think that of all the albums they’ve released that the first one would have the fewest extras available. A young band in the studio doesn’t get the chance to spend days experimenting with various takes nor do their tours get documented thoroughly. Given the fact that they’ve made a substantial effort to remix several of their albums in 5.1 I am hoping that this is part of the plan for the first album as well.
As a Rush fan, I think the biggest hope is that this marks the beginning of long term plan for them to revisit all their albums and put out updated and definitive versions of them all. Either way, count me in.

As for Supertramp’s BIA I have the deluxe version which is basically the album with a 2nd live disc. I also have the recently release hi-res Blu-ray. All I can say is that there is probably a lot of additional material from this album and tour (out-takes, alternate versions, live versions, etc.) but without a 5.1 mix I am not sure how open I am to buying it again, even though I love this album.
