With a series of false starts, it now appears that our Deluxe Edition of Trilogy by Emerson, Lake & Palmer will finally be made available on June 30 (US). The last date was scheduled for May of 2015 . However, this newest date does seem well cemented.
If you’re an Emerson, Lake & Palmer fan like myself, then you wait like the rest of us for the latest updating of their classic albums. Not too long ago, we were rewarded with the Jakko Jakszyk remix of Brain Salad Surgery. Jakko picked up the restoration processes of the ELP albums after Stephen Wilson lost interest in the rest of the catalog after finishing Emerson, Lake & Palmer. and Tarkus. With Brain Salad Surgery and its various bonus features that include the 5.1 surround bonus finished, the next in line was the brilliant, extremely different Trilogy album, originally released in 1972.
Trilogy toned things down quite a bit after Tarkus, maintaining what the band was all about musically, but moving into a bit of territory that blended their first album with the second. Of course, with the eventual release of Brain Salad Surgery, that avenue was no longer traveled. But while they were on it, Trilogy provided a beautifully executed blend of acoustic folk (“In The Beginning”), futuristic jazz (“The Endless Enigma (Part One)”) and its progressive twin, “The Endless Enigma (Part Two)”, the classicism of “Fugue”, the grand scope jam of “Hoedown”, the expansive “Trilogy”, and so on. Needless to say, there are those who would call Trilogy their best. I’m one who does.
Trilogy was announced to follow Brain Salad Surgery in the 40th Anniversary remix and expansion packages, with an expectant release on several dates in 2014 and a February, May date for 2015. All those dates came and went.
As with the previous ELP titles, there will be remixed Stereo, hi resolution Stereo, and a new 5.1 Surround mix planned for Trilogy. The song selections, of course, include the original tracks, as well as DVD-Audio, Blu-ray- Audio discs, and bonus tracks. I have yet to see any Blu-ray content, however. See the track-list below:

Mine came in from Amazon on Tuesday… Haven’t had a chance to put it on yet, but it is available.
So many dates! Was yours an import?
I think it was an import… I had ordered it in October and kind of forgot about it till it showed up this week.
I received mine from Amazon UK and listened to it last night. It was excellent. I am set up for 2 channel only so I cannot speak for the surround sound but there were many drum parts that were so far back in the mix I could not hear them on previous versions and now I can and the bass is clear as well. All other aspects do not seem to suffer from these being heard. If you enjoy ELP, getting this is a must in my opinion.
There is no Blu-Ray audio disc in this set. It has two CD’s(original stereo mix & 2015 stereo remix), and a DVD-Audio disc(2015 surround mix, 2015 stereo mix and original stereo mix). The DVD-audio contains high resolution lossless DVD-Audio, but also Dolby Digital & DTS(for those whose disc player doesn’t support DVD-Audio). There is one bonus track(a supposedly “alternate” version of “From The Begining” that, to my ears, is note for note identical to the familiar version)
It is the same backing track with a different Moog solo. In the 5.1 alternate version BOTH Moog solos are used.
There is no Blu Ray version for any of the ELP albums at this time.
Phil is correct regarding the lack of Bluray. The 5.1 mix on Trilogy is everything you would hope for, without any of the mix ups that occurred on Jakko’s BSS 5.1 mix. As for the alternate version of “From The Beginning”, the only difference is they keyboard part in the final minute of the song, and it is quite different from the original. It will be interesting to see whether Razor amp; Tie fix up the spelling mistake on the UK edition. On the back cover of the package the penultimate song “Living Sin” is listed as “Living Sun”. Not just once, but for every disc!
Just wondering whether 5.1 will be included in the standard package. I was incredulous when I realized that the DVD in the standard issue (2 CD/1 DVD) of last years Brain Salad Surgery release contained only a “super stereo” mix, but not 5.1. The surround mix, apparently, was only part of the $100+ super deluxe edition. (I’m glad I still have my 2000 Rhino DVD-A surround copy.)
The Brain Salad Surgery “Super Stereo” DVD-A was a one time departure; have no fear that Trilogy has more in common with ELP 1st + Tarkus.
The standard 3 disc set has the 5.1 mix in both DVD-Audio and DVD-Video (DTS/DD), unlike last year’s BSS set.
