With collected catalog sets becoming a new norm, it only makes sense that we start to see more of them arriving as time goes on.  And why not?!  It’s a good idea.  Many of us are fans and so already have many of the albums.  Some of us are newer fans and may not have them all (in the case of Dire Straits, that’s six catalog albums).  And still for others, it’s an opportunity to collect brand new, and usually newly remastered reissues to bring our current collection up to newer audio tech standards.

DireStraits

Dire Straits came out with a surprise hit single, “Sultans Of Swing” back in 1978 from their self-titled debut.  It was followed up by Communiqué, not as well received by the masses but still loved by the growing fans of the band.

Dire Straits‘ third album, Making Movies, released in 1980, delivered “Romeo And Juliet” bringing more attention to the band.  It was after the band’s fourth album, Love Over Gold (1982), that they shot into immense stardom with the well-received, MTV-assisted classic, Brothers In Arms (1985).

Brothers In Arms spawned five brilliant singles, all in timed succession giving the album a sturdy active life span of a solid year.  Those high-charting singles (“So Far Away”, “Money For Nothing”, “Brothers In Arms”, “Walk Of Life”, “Your Latest Trick”), took the album to multi-platinum status around the world with 9 million copies in the US, 10 million in Canada, and 13 million units in the UK.

The band finished their tenure with the release of On Every Street in 1991, some six years after the phenomenal Brothers In Arms.

On November 25 (UK), a Box bringing together all six of the Dire Straits Studio albums in newly remastered, 180g vinyl LP will become available.  The remastering was done by the world-class expertise of Bob Ludwig.  (The Box releases in Germany on November 19, and Canada on November 19.  There is currently no US release date.)

For Brothers In Arms, the CD running order has been restored, and will be presented as a 2LP set.  On Every Street will also be presented as a 2LP set.  All of the album covers have been restored to the original artwork.  All LPs will be packed into a slip case.  Each LP album will come with a download rights card for the digital files.

The set, The Studio Albums 1978-1991, is issued as a Limited Edition.  When they’re gone, they’re gone.

Thanks to to the Mark Knopfler official website, and Tim I for bringing it to my attention.
