Barry White is best remembered for his unique bass/baritone voice in a collection of quite well-received love songs scattered over the course of a successful 25+ year career. In that time, he released eleven Top 40 singles, several of which achieved Number 1 status. In this time, he formed a backing orchestra calling them The Love Unlimited Orchestra. In their own right, they delivered a string of of charting albums, and achieved their own number one single with the “Love’s Theme” instrumental using the era’s recognizable style of funk.
On June 15, Mercury will revisit the 20th Century Records vaults and create a collection of tracks for Love Unlimited Orchestra with a 2CD – and separately purchasable 3LP – Edition of The 20th Century Records Singles (1973-1979).
But this orchestra was NOT the only protege project of Barry White. There was also the three member female vocal group, Love Unlimited (Glodean James, Linda James, Diane Taylor). The girls in this group were back-up singers for Barry White. In the extra time, they created hits of their own with songs like “I Belong To You”, and “Walkin’ In The Rain With The One I Love”. Also on June 15, Mercury will release a collected set of Love Unlimited singles with the release of The Uni, MCA, and 20th Century Singles (1972-1975) with a CD and a 2LP set.
