Status Quo, the early ’60s UK-based band that gained greater recognition in the ’70s (a long time period between formation and fame, a resilience element long missing from most bands). With the arrival of their first album in 1968 on the Pye label, they began their rise with great music. They released 4 studio albums before their best-selling Piledriver (1972) introduced them to a wider audience in the more parts of the world.
On July 3, the fine folks at HNE Recordings (Cherry Red UK) will gather together a collection of early Status Quo that will include a batch of live tracks, recorded studio tracks (from their 3rd and 4th Pye issues), alternate and rare tracks, demos, outtakes, A and B-side single edits, a mono version of Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon, and other rarities, some previously unreleased. This set will be spread out over 5 CDs and will pack in plenty of notes and photos. The boxed set will be known as The Early Years, Vol 2 (1970-1972).
