When The Doobie Brothers arrived in 1971 by way of their self-titled debut Warner Bros album, little did they know that they’d enter in America’s consciousness with a string of hits and more than a few memorable albums. Their second album sold over a million copies in the US and gave us “Listen To The Music”, “Rockin’ Down The Highway”, and “Jesus Is Just Alright” as forever hits. They enjoyed a resurgence with the shuffle of a lineup adding in Michael McDonald for an ailing Tom Johnston. The resulting album, Takin’ It To The Streets emerged in 1976 and delivered two big hits with the title track and “It Keeps You Runnin'”. And yes, 2026 marks the album’s 50th Anniversary soooo…
On July 10, Rhino will help The Doobie Brothers celebrate with a 2026 remaster of the album and delivery via 180g-weight Rhino Reserve package (and, I believe, a CD reissue featuring the same remaster will issue on the same date. Time will tell). The album is well loved and will have the best visibility the band can provide.
