Anti Records will release finished (and final) sessions tapes featuring Pops Staples in a new album called Don’t Lose This. This release, so named because, after the sessions, Pops gave the unfinished tapes to Mavis Staples, and told her, “don’t lose this, Mavis”, were recorded when Roebuck “Pops” Staples was quite sick, He passed from this world in 2000.
Over the years, Mavis brought together the talent of Jeff Tweedy to fill out the sessions recordings. The finished product is considered by Mavis to be a great swansong for one of the most important guitarist in the gospel market. The “new” album will feature ten tracks.
Don’t Lose This is expected from Anti Records on February 17. It is scheduled for issue on LP and CD. The LP version will include a CD copy of the set.
