In the late ’60s, Mike Pinera formed Blues Image. With their second album, they had an immense hit with “Ride Captain Ride”, a song that still sits well in the Rock canon of popular radio singles hits. Mike Pinera eventually left the band to join Iron Butterfly, but left Blues Image with an endearing classic moment. Recently, it was announced that Pinera would revisit the songs of his time with both Iron Butterfly and with Blues Image. Re-recorded and with orchestral accompaniment, the songs take on a kind of new life.
On February 17, Blues Image will release Next Voyage. It will be filled with 8 songs, including “In A Gadda Da Vida”, and “Captain’s Suite”, which includes “Ride Captain Ride”. The album boasts contributions by Pat Travers, Jonathan Cain, Charley DeChant (on saxophone), and more.
Next Voyage is being released via Solar Music on CD, DD, and a late May release of 180g-weight vinyl LP.
