If you remember the name of Vangelis, who has done amazing Award-winning soundtrack work like Chariots of Fire (1981), and Blade Runner (1982), then you have a good idea just how important he had become. In addition to his soundtrack work, he created numerous solo sets, collaborations with Jon Anderson (YES), and even auditioned to replace Wakeman for the Relayer sessions with YES. But his early work was with Aphrodite’s Child, a Greek prog band from the late ’60s and early ’70s that released three albums. One of those was the highly influential 666 set that was written around the texts of Revelation from the bible. The 2LP album gained fans and to this day, stands as a strong collection of conceptual music and lyrics.
On November 8, Mercury will revisit 666: The Apocalypse of John with a dedicated 4CD/BD Box Set that will bring together the original release along with the content of the rare Greek issue of the album, which had different mixes. Along with that will be a collection of remixes on the BD that include 5.1 Surround upmix, a hi-resolution Stereo mix, a 96kHz/24-bit Atmos mix, and video. Two of the CDs will feature new remastering of the original album. These mixes were watched over by Vangelis before his death in 2022. The box will add in an illustrated book with new notes, photos sourced by Vangelis, and interviews with the original Greek band. All in all, this set should go to great lengths to satisfy fans of the album as well as Vangelis completionists.
666: The Apocalypse of John will reissue on the 4CD/BD box, DD, and a 2LP black vinyl offering.
