As Glam Rock took hold of Rock and Roll in the early ’70s, it introduced a strong suite of players that included Mott The Hoople, David Bowie, Lou Reed, T. Rex, Slade, Roxy Music, New York Dolls, and many more. Another of the influential Glam team was a UK band by the name of Sweet. Sweet produced a string of hits that were more Pop in nature than the kind of music that Mott, David Bowie, and others were composing. But they hit the nerve of the glittered audiences with their songs. Their biggest hit was “The Ballroom Blitz”. With the song’s band introduction at the beginning of the track, Sweet built upon a collection of previous UK hits to blow their presence across the pond to the US side. It was followed up with several more album releases and hits that included the popular hits, “Fox On The Run”, and “Little Willy”.
On October 7, BMG will revisit Sweet with a 3CD collection of tracks from their peak era. The set will be called Greatest Hitz 1969-1978. It will contain 51 tracks, hits and all deep cuts that highlight the best that Sweet offered in the prime of their gig. Those incorporate songs from their debut – Funny How Sweet Co-Co Can Be (with name as The Sweet) and on through Level Headed.
Greatest Hitz 1969-1978 will be issued on 3CD, DD, and 2LP vinyl (the 2LP snips the track offerings down to 24 tunes).
