UK Prog got an early start in the late ’60s with a few pioneers. Many of them turned monumental, bands like Yes, Tangerine Dream, and King Crimson. One of those bands who maintained a lower profile was known as Van der Graaf Generator. Formed by Peter Hammill in 1967, the band charmed the UK, and by extension, some US listeners. To date, they have released 13 studio sets, their last being in 2016 with Do Not Disturb.
On September 30, Esoteric Recordings (Cherry Red UK) will release a new Van der Graaf Generator box paying close attention to their works from 2005 through 2016. This will include six studio albums and three live set (Real Time – 2007, Live At The Paradiso – 2009, Merlin Atmos (with bonus tracks) – 2015). The new box, which will compliment the previously released The Charisma Years 1970-1978, issued in September of 2021, and will house 13CDs and a region-free DVD by itself.
The box will encompass all the released studio albums that include Present (2005), Trisector (2008), A Grounding In Numbers (2011), ALT (2012), and Do Not Disturb (2016). The included DVD will hold the film version of Live At The Paradiso, previously only available for the Japan market. A booklet is packed in with essay, notes, photos, interviews, and more.
