Steppenwolf, an American band enjoyed the heavily psychedelic era of music from 1967 through 1971. During this time, the band released six Dunhill Records-issued albums, three wildly recognizable radio hits (“Born To Be Wild”, “Magic Carpet Ride”, and “Rock Me” – the previous two hits sold into coveted Gold territory), and a handful of FM classics like “Sookie Sookie”, “Move Over”, and “The Pusher” among others. Dunhill also issued three collections, and a Gold-selling Live set. In short, Steppenwolf owned as much of the period and airwaves during that peak time as could be awarded to a band of note.
On October 29, Esoteric Recordings UK (via Cherry Red UK) will release an 8CD Box that will contain all eight of the Dunhill-released studio and live albums, all newly remastered from original master tapes. In addition to the accumulation of the band’s Dunhill releases, a collection of 26 bonus single edits and mono mixes are included on the CD that they reflect. The 8CD Box will be called Magic Carpet Ride – The Dunhill/ABC Years 1967-1971.
