Progressive Epics. Classical Suites. Extended Jazz Improvisations. Some songs are just long, y’know—a matinee feature all to themselves. In this ongoing series, MusicTAP presents the best of long-form musical accompaniment for your weekend moods.

Matinee Feature for the Weekend of October 6-7, 2018: “The Ninth Wave” by Kate Bush.

The first side of Kate Bush’s wildly successful Hounds of Love album features several instantly-classic singles and iconic music videos. Apparently, Kate couldn’t wait for the next album to engage in artistic defiance of pop fame; thus, the flip side of Hounds comprises a side-long suite that Prog Magazine readers named the #1 Kate Bush song of all time. Do we as the human race just love Kate all the more when she’s at her weirdest and most challenging? Perhaps so. “The Ninth Wave” covers more than its fair share of sounds and moods, each component song capable of standing alone but best appreciated in its proper setting. Take some time this weekend to appreciate away.
