My friend over at Vintage Vinyl News is reporting a new Deluxe Edition reissue of an Abba album. The album, Ring Ring, is the band’s debut recording issued in 1973. In and of itself, Ring Ring may not be particularly noteworthy to some Abba fans because it contains no highly recognizeable Abba hits (in the US or Europe) that began to show up worldwide as early as the band’s next album, Waterloo (1974). But nevertheless, it is an Abba album, and is historically their beginning.
Interestingly, Ring Ring was not attributed to the band’s soon to be adopted name of ABBA, but rather the tongue twisting Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid. No wonder that moniker disappeared quickly.
The title track, “Ring Ring” did do well in some areas, which brought fame to the band and giving their followup album the lift it needed to achieve their acquired fame. For deep Abba fans, they are likely to be fond of some of the songs from Ring Ring.
The upcoming Deluxe Edition of Ring Ring will include, of course, the original album. However, that will be bolstered by the inclusion of thirteen bonus tracks that will include non-album songs, and few other goodies and surprises. The second disc will be a DVD with rare TV performances from this period as well as a 2012 talk with Benny as he discusses Ring Ring.
The Deluxe Edition of Ring Ring will contain a 20-page booklet. As of now, Ring Ring will be an import title to the US. It is slated for reissue on October 14 (UK), and October 22 (US, import).
