The Lovin’ Spoonful, a NYC product that formed in the early part of the ’60s, just as Rock was growing, delivered five studio sets for the Kama Sutra label. Their music influenced a round of musicians that went even further with the Pop sounds that the band made. The most visible member of the band, John Sebastion, went on to a solo career, and whose hit, “Welcome Back” themed the Welcome Back, Kotter television series in the ’70s.
On March 27, Strawberry Records (Cherry Red UK) will released a solid and sufficient 7CD Box set that will go through much of The Lovin’ Spoonful collection. In this box will be offered the band’s first four studio issues, the Woody Allen-directed What’s Up, Tiger Lily? (1966) soundtrack as well as the You’re A Big Boy Now soundtrack, and two studio sets after the departure of John Sebastion, one solo set from Zal Yanovsky from 1968 (Alive And Well From Argentina), and the Joe Butler-led Lovin’ Spoonful set – Revelation: Revolution ’69. In addition, a handful of bonus cuts that feature demos, outtakes, alternate mixes, and instrumental mixes.

The 7CD boxed set will be called What A Day For A Daydream: The Complete Recordings 1965-1969. It will be offered on CD and DD.
