Faces are one of those bands with a varied history making them incredible on two fronts. The first was the magnificent Steve Marriott at the helm. His tenure with Lane, McLagan, Jones (and to a lesser extent, Winston) produced 3 original era studio sets (not counting Playmates, and 78 In The Shade); the second with Rod Stewart, and Ronnie Wood, which produced 4 studio sets and a live album. In between, after Marriott left to form Humble Pie, and Stewart and Wood arrived, the inevitable blending had to occur. and it was in a collection of tracks recorded before the issue of First Step in 1970.

On October 31, Rhino will release the previously unheard embryo tracks recorded at Olympic Studios in Barnes, England. and rehearsal tracks recorded on cassettes at the Rolling Stones rehearsal space warehouse in Bermondsey. There are 10 tracks in all and serve to unveil the beginnings of Faces with a library add of interest. The set will be titled Early Steps. The included booklet will have unpublished photos and liner notes of interest.

Early Steps will be issued on CD format and in digital format.
