The Who has a storied career in the annals of Rock that, like classic bands before and after them, do not need a spelled out history. They have their fanbase. And like all fans, some albums work, and others do not. But The Who always managed to entertain many. With only 12 albums in release during their more than 50 years, Most were in heady Platinum territory. One of those was the band’s eighth studio set, Who Are You. Who Are You was released in 1978 and spawned two singles, with the title track becoming the album’s best known. The worst moment of the album’s release is the fact that Keith Moon passed not long after its release.
Planned for October 31, The Who will heavily celebrate Who Are You with a massive 7CD/BD Box that will feature a new remaster of the album. The other discs will present several mixes including a rejected early Glyn Johns mix, new Steven Wilson mixes, rehearsal tracks, demos, outtakes, unreleased tracks, and a batch of live performance tracks. The Blu-ray disc will offer new mixes that will include Dolby Atmos, DTS-HS 5.1 Surround, and Hi-Res Steven Wilson Stereo for the original album. A 100-page hard bound book will be filled with notes, essays, photos, and a ton of other things.
This reissue of Who Are You will not only be reissued in the 7CD/1BD Box, but also 2CD (with 28-page booklet), DD, a Half-Speed 180g-weight black vinyl single LP, a 4LP box (with 28-page soft cover book), and a Limited Edition 180g-weight Yellow Vinyl single LP set. There are several bundle packages available as well on the band’s website. A stand-alone BD-Audio will also be available via SDE.
