Tangerine Dream is an unparalleled German band that explored the vast borders of electronic music. Headed by founder, Edgar Froese, who started the band in 1967, Tangerine Dream advanced to the otherworldly legends they are today. Although Edgar Froese is gone from us, he left the evolving project to one of his members of the band before he passed. Tangerine Dream is now admirably spearheaded by Thorsten Quaeschning. Regardless of present status, Tangerine Dream released a series of influential and timeless albums that include their debut Virgin Records set, Phaedra (1974), Stratosfear (1976), and Rubycon (1975). 2024 marked the 50th Anniversary of Phaedra.
On April 18, Phaedra will be fondly remembered for its 50th Anniversary with a defining 5CD/BD Boxed set. This set will feature a newly remastered Phaedra along with 2CDs worth of recorded outtakes from the original recording sessions, and the first UK show by Tangerine Dream at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London’s West End on June 16, 1974, which is previously unreleased. The Blu-ray (BD) will contain a new Steven Wilson 5.1 Surround mix (Wilson had previously provided a new Stereo Mix in 2018 for the In Search of Hades box set). A booklet will round the set out admirably with plenty of notes and an essay by Wouter Bessels, who is a authority on Tangerine Dream and its various lineups and periods.
The 50th Anniversary of Phaedra will be featured on the 5CD/BD box and DD. Two bonus tracks on CD1 are Steven Wilson 2018 Stereo Mixes. Pre-order here.
