It’s somewhat old news but it is still absolutely hard to ignore. I should have dealt with this news a week or more ago. My sources had alerted me to its release and so, for that, I’m apologetic. But in the event, you may have been unaware, here it is.
The early ’70s began to see a few experimental bands helping to change the way we listen to music. Kraftwerk was one of the first in the New Wave that exploded as the ’70s drew to a close. Their first song that hit airwaves the world over, was “Autobahn” from the album of the same name. The single was edited to fit a neat playing time, making the album acquisition for the longer track and the other gems that were on it was groundbreaking.
Autobahn was already the band’s fourth album as they were deeply enmeshed in change and innovation. with three previous albums (the first issued in 1970!!), they had laid sufficient groundwork for their arrival into mainstream acceptance. Autobahn has 5 tracks, with the first side of the LP containing the 22-minute version of the “Autobahn” track.
On March 7, Parlophone revisits this classic with a nod to the set’s 50th Anniversary. For this reissue, the album music has been remixed by band founder, Ralf Hütter and the band’s engineer to create a new standard Dolby Atmos mix.
There will be three ways to enjoy this 50th Anniversary reissue of Autobahn. There will be a Blu-ray Audio experience that will include Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround, new Stereo mix, and new 2024 edits of “Autobahn” and “Kometenmelodie 2”. There is an included video of an edited version of “Autobahn” as well.
A 12″ picture disc LP vinyl offering is available with the album’s 2009 remaster. The Digital Download and Stream will be with Doby Atmos quality.
On February 14, a vinyl 7″ and DD single will be made available with a new edit of “Autobahn” b/w “Kometenmelodie 2”.
