Ultravox released their first album in early 1977. But it wasn’t until their Vienna set in 1980 that set them off in the charts. While critics argued that the album sounded more like a Midge Ure solo album rather than an Ultravox album, the change was an exhilarating one. It led to a worldwide acceptance. From there, Ultravox performed rather well until their breakdown in the peak era in 1986. Within that range of classic albums that were released, Lament represented the 7th studio set from the band. It generated 3 singles worldwide. Originally released in 1984, Lament celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
On August 23, Chrysalis Records will release a new 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition set of Lament that will be comprised of 7 CDs and 1 DVD. The CDs will feature the original album remastered for 2024, a wide collection of B-sides, 12″ remixes, and other rarities, a healthy collection of 45 previously unreleased tracks, Among those will be a new remix of the entire album by people like Moby, Steven Wilson, and Midge Ure. Steven Wilson has produced new 5.1 Surround Sound mixes as well as new Stereo mixes for this commentative set. Also, a newly remixed live set from their June 7, 1984 set at Hammersmith Odeon in London. A 20-page booklet will be packed in with previously unseen photos, a large essay, and other goodies.
Lament will be celebrated in the 7CD/DVD Box, DD, and a 2LP package of the original album. The LPs will be presented with 2 etched sides, on 140g-weight black vinyl, and a four-panel insert inside.
