By 1974, David Bowie had done a bit of conquering of the world musically and on stage. He had already released The Man Who Sold The World (1970), Hunky Dory (1971), Ziggy Stardust (1972), with 1973 seeing Aladdin Sane, and Pin-Ups. His stage shows were required seeing. Not to forget to mention, David Bowie was on the cusp of a musical change that had already seen the dismantling of The Spiders From Mars band with Ronson, Bolder, and Woodmansey – all familiar components that were missing on Diamond Dogs. But Diamond Dogs generated excitement and was a successful collection of songs that gave us “Rebel, Rebel”, the deep title cut, and other memorable tracks. Diamond Dogs celebrate 50 years this year.
On May 24, Rhino Entertainment will help David Bowie celebrate the classic album of Diamond Dogs on its 50th Anniversary with a 2023 remaster of the album. As history has also provided us, a picture disc will also be made available.
Diamond Dogs will be celebrated with CD, DD, and two Limited Editions of LP with one being a picture disc, and the other a standard black vinyl reissue that will feature a Half-Speed Remaster (the label states, “This record was cut on a fully customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer”).
