The Church, an Australian band experienced in Psychedelic music (then known as neo-psych), has been around since 1980. Since that formation, they have released over 20 albums. Of those 20+ sets, Starfish (1988) garnered the most attention, with worldwide markets in on the excitement. The US gave The Church their only Gold album but the world continued to be interested though 1990 as the band released Gold Afternoon Fix. The Church music has been kept alive primarily by Steve Kilby, Marty Willson-Piper, Peter Koppes, and to an extent, Tim Powles. These days, it’s Steve Kilby, and Tim Powles keeping the flame alight.
On February 24, The Church will issue their 26th album with The Hypnogogue. The new album will contain 13 new songs, and will be fully supported by an 18-date US tour beginning on March 11 in Los Angeles and concluding on April 8 in Pelham, IN. The band currently has two tracks available. “The Hypnogogue” was previously released, and now “C’est LA Vie” has been issued in front of the upcoming album. You can hear both below.
The Hypnogogue will be released via Communicating Vessels, and planned for release on digital platforms. If that changes, I will alert to the news of physical availability.
