Heavy Metal from the UK got a massive boost with the arrival of Judas Priest. In 1974. they released Rocka Rolla, then followed it up with Sad Wings of Destiny in 1976 (where I came in as a fan). Their breakthrough album, Sin after Sin, arrived in 1977 after a signing in the US with long-standing label, Columbia Records. They have reached Platinum status in the US, and in other parts of the world that enjoy the sound of Judas Priest. Overall, the band has recorded a whopping 18 studio albums, and released an essential live album – Unleashed In The East. They’ve undergone personnel changes but they still relentlessly crank out high energy Rock and Roll.
On October 15, Columbia will celebrate 50 years of Judas Priest with a career-spanning Limited Edition 42CD Box set that will include every album released by the band including the first two non-Columbia Records albums (Rocka Rolla, Sad Wings of Destiny). 29 of the CDs feature Columbia Records-issued studio and live sets. There are five previously unreleased archive live sets that join a varied collection of previously available live performances. These live sets have been newly mastered for this box. There are several CDs with previously unreleased outtakes, demos, and live performances archival tracks. The 42CD Box is called 50 Heavy Metal Years of Music.
The 42CD Box will add in 5 photos, each signed by current band members, a numbered British Steel (blunted) metal razor blade, a replica British Steel tour program, a memorabilia book with photos/ads/passes/posters, a replica tour poster for the 1980 British Steel German tour, and a replica tour poster from the 1984 Euro tour for Defenders Of The Faith. The CDs are housed in mini-LP cardboard sleeves.
A collector’s single CD named Reflections: 50 Heavy Metal Years of Music will feature a selected batch of tracks as will a 2LP package. The 2LP set will feature 180g-weight red-color vinyl in a double gatefold jacket.
