Continuing with a growing element of definitive Box sets from bands, a new box for Caravan will be released. Filled with a mind-boggling 37 discs, the masterful Madfish Music (who produced the template of definitive boxes with the Wishbone Ash – The Vintage Years set) will unleash a limited edition set for Caravan called Who Do You Think We Are?.
Caravan was formed in 1968, releasing their eponymous debut album the same year. Over time, they released fourteen albums. But their peak years were over eight studio albums with their earlier sets their prime recordings. Nevertheless, Caravan not only produced musicians that would go elsewhere (Richard and Dave Sinclair would work with Camel). It would be Pye Hastings and Richard Coughlin (RIP) who would maintain and sustain Caravan for the enduring length of the band’s tenure.
On August 20, Madfish Music (THANK YOU!) will release the mammoth box with only 2500 copies to be made available worldwide. (There is a VERY limited edition Box of only 100 copies with a signed and numbered art print of the book cover art.) Inside, and over the 37 discs, will be 285 tracks. All of the albums from Caravan will be included as will a hefty collection of 9 CDs that contain previously unreleased live performances from 6 shows. An included BD (Blu-ray) will contain the 5.1 Surround Steven Wilson-mixed and his 48kHz/24-bit Stereo of classic 1971 set, In The Land of Grey and Pink. An included DVD will contain a collection of European TV performances from the periods of 1971-1981. All fourteen studio albums are included along with 2CDs of bonus music as well as the four official live sets and 2 unofficial live packages.
The box will pack in a series of goodies that include a 144-page hardbound book filled to the edges with photos, notes, essays, memorabilia, a complete discography, and more. Other things include two replica posters, a fan club mini-book (with a new Pye Hastings interview), a replica Blind Dog at St. Dunstans tour program, three signed photos, a replica press packet from the Girls That Grow Plump In The Night release, a Caravan-relevant fold out “Trip Down Memory Lane” Canterbury map, an old magazine-styled Family Tree poster. While the set IS pricey, it is designed essentially for the die-hard Caravan fan. The magnificent track list has been painstakingly recreated for you below!
