The arrival of Hüsker Dü as a band added to the aggressive rock sound of the ’80s changing Punk styles. Their musical approaches would gain a rabid fanbase (including Duane Leyva of our OLD column, Duane’s Pit Stop). One of the visionaries in the band was Bob Mould. Bob Mould would go on to deliver more music via Sugar, but would become far better known as a solo artist of important note. Over his 18 years of solo production, Bob Mould has released fourteen studio efforts (not including his upcoming album, Blue Hearts, arriving from Merge Records on September 25).
On October 2, Edsel (UK) will assemble a gasp-inducing collection of albums and other offerings in a massive 24CD Bob Mould definitive Box. Inside, 18 studio albums from his solo periods as well as his years with Sugar, will join with four live albums, and a collected 2CD set of rarities and other things Mould. 295 tracks in all.
The Box will be called Distortion 1989-2019. For release, there will be the previously mentioned 24CD Box, and a segmented vinyl set released over several dates. The first of those vinyl Boxes is Distortion 1989-1995. The others are planned for 2021.
The Limited Edition Box (1000 copies) will contain a 12″ x 12″ print that is hand-signed by Bob Mould. All the music on this set has been remastered. A 72-page booklet is packed inside with photos, essays, notes, lyrics, and memorabilia.
