Iggy Pop, while revered in small circles, is a most underrated performer. From his early Rock start back in 1969 with the inimitable Stooges, Iggy Pop has released an enviable stretch of over twenty albums. After his short time with The Stooges. he was rediscovered by David Bowie, who an adoring fan, and likely modeled some his behavior on stage from watching Iggy shamelessly and fearlessly perform. David Bowie resurrected Iggy Pop with two classic ‘comeback’ albums in The Idiot (1977), and Lust For Life (1977). These two Iggy Pop albums are the only two released on RCA Records, Bowie’s label.
On May 29, Universal will release two classic Iggy Pop sets in 2CD expansions, remastered for the reissues. In addition, an enticing 7CD Boxed set, The Bowie Years, will incorporate the two Iggy Pop classic along with TV Eye Live, a disc of demos and rarities, and three live performance sets over three CDs.
The Idiot, and Lust For Life both released in the same year. In these two 2CD reissues, a collection of live sets are attached along with the original album remastered. Booklets rich with photos, notes, essay, and credits will accompany both.
The Bowie Years collects both remastered Iggy Pop titles, and adds in extra bonuses that include the previously mentioned CD of nine alternate mixes and single edits as well as an interview with Iggy about The Idiot. The TV Eye Live set is on CD3, while the remaining CDs 5, 6, and 7 showcase previously unreleased live Iggy Pop, which is ALWAYS a treat. A 40-page book is added with tons of cool things tucked inside. The CDs are housed in nice cardboard sleeves with slick cover art! Of course, this pricey set is targeted at the devout fan, but for them, it’s almost essential.
