Gun ‘n Roses appeared in the late ’80s much after the the era of New Wave and Post-Punk began to drift off to sleep. Yes, you had “hair” bands in the ’80s, but Guns ‘n Roses were not them. They were a throwback to the bluesy style of the Stones but with an updated sound. In fact, you might be able (then) to have called them the new Stones because the original Stones were fading from viability, unable to remain plugged into the zeitgeist of the time. Now, I’m not sure about many of you (and I DO respect your music and choices), but Guns ‘n Roses’ debut was – for me – the one classic recording of the band. And so, for many, Appetite For Destruction remains a great album of classic Rock indicative of the times from whence it was created.
On June 29 (oh, what a busy, BUSY Friday that’s going to be!), UMe will release a surprise update of Appetite For Destruction, promising to deliver the title in a variety of ways that will include a die-hard fan specific Locked N Loaded box filling every empty space within with 4CDs, BD-Audio, 180g-weight vinyl LPs (7), seven yellow-color vinyl 7″singles, lithographs, and more swag than you could sift through in a day’s time (rings, patches, replica tix, 96-page hardbound book, guitar picks, custom turntable mat, and a Certificate of authenticity (as if you would need one. No pirate will ever replicate this set), as well as a lavish design for the box itself.
But for the fan otherwise, there will be a 4CD/BD-Audio Deluxe Edition, also with a 96-page hardbound book, a collection of swag, and an enviable collection of remastered original tracks, b-sides, 5.1 remix, and the previously unreleased Sound City Session N’ More session recordings. For the more casual fans, there will be a 2LP 180g-weight LP set of the album with the fourth side etched. The music is cut from a high resolution mix.
Then there will be a 2CD set with eighteen selected bonus tracks, and a single CD with just the remastered original album alone.
Appetite For Destruction will be getting quite an amount of attention with this release, as it should.
