Why some bands have never had a proper live set released on vinyl or CD is beyond me. It’s an accurate display of a band during a particular period that should stand out AND that should have been released at the height of popularity in order to bring better attention to the band. After all, look what Frampton Comes Alive did for him! Nevertheless, some bands and artists have never issued one. One of them is ZZ Top.
Yes, there have been the best-selling live DVD of Live From Texas issued in 2008. But officially, we haven’t received a great set of live ZZ Top performances. That drought will end pretty quickly, though.
On August 12, Suretone Records (via Rhino Records) will release a fifteen-track Live album called Greatest Hits Live From Around The World. The tracks found on this set will feature performances from shows over the last eleven years. The songs were performed at various cities worldwide during those tours and are listed as the show of origin for each (see track-list below).
Two of the songs, “Rough Boy”, “Sixteen Tons”, were performed in London with Jeff Beck joining in. In fact, “Rough Boy” is currently available as a promo lead-in to the album and can be enjoyed below in the embedded ‘audio-only’ video.
ZZ Top – Greatest Hits Live From Around The World will be made available on CD, DD, and a 2LP gatefold edition.
