Bruce Cockburn, long an essential part of the Folk/Rock scene, and has been since 1970 with the release of his debut set. He has enjoyed moderate success with singles that can fill an album with Greatest Hits and has given us plenty to enjoy for time to come. Over time, his poetic lyrics wrapped in toe-tapping music has filled some 26 albums. One of those singles, “Wondering Where The Lions Are” elevated his status worldwide, topping at 21 in the US market. His native Canadian market has always been an embracer of Bruce Cockburn and his music, placing many of his great songs in the Top40 for them. Today, at the age of 81, he still creates new music and tours the new music frequently.
On October 16, Bruce Cockburn will release his next studio set – The Blood Of Others via Sunset Boulevard Records. This new album will be filled with old classics that helped influence his own writing over time. With 15 celebratory and appreciative tracks within the new album, the aptly titled The Blood Of Others will revisit songs from Arthur Crudup (“It’s Alright”, although the influence seeped from the Elvis Presley version), Robert Wilkins (his Gospel version of “I Wish I Was In Heaven Sitting Down”, and Jo Stafford (“You Belong To Me”) to just name three influential factors that help to create this new Cockburn album.
There is a single from this album in release. This song, “Fare Thee Well” is a cover of a traditional folk tune (writer unknown) originally recorded by Libby Holman/Josh White. It can be heard below.
