Sting had been quite busy with a Police reunion several years ago. It comes as no surprise that creatively, he’s taken a bit of a musical break. However, creativity sometimes refuses to stay dormant for too long. So, Sting reenters Stage left.
With a play arriving in 2014, Sting had directed all of his energies to bringing that to fruition. Based on memories of his childhood, Sting has crafted a what will obviously be a compelling story of self-realization.
With the production largely completed as a planned project, and headed to Broadway. it should also come as no surprise that Sting would provide the music for it. The results of that will be compiled into a forthcoming album via Cherrytree Records/Interscope/A&M Records. The scheduled date for the new album, which will be called by the play’s name, The Last Ship, will be September 24, with the rest of the world getting the jump on the US scheduled for September 23.
Importantly, The Last Ship will be delivered in two forms. The first is the standard CD package containing 12 songs. The second form will be a 2CD Deluxe Edition containing five extra tracks. The Last Ship will also be configured as a 12-track vinyl LP. For absolute fans of Sting, there will be an exclusive Amazon-only Super Deluxe Edition that will include 2CDs with a total of 20-tracks. And, of course, because we DO live in a digital frontier, digital MP3 downloads are included in the release schedule.
I’ve heard that AC/DC vocalist, Brian Johnson, will guest on this album. Should be interesting.
