All Zappa reissue titles have been scheduled for June 26. Yes, people, you had BETTER be saving EVERY penny you can get your hands on.
Why should I save every penny? I mean, is there anything better about these than previous re-issues?
That is, IF you were planning to refresh your FZ library. But still, little is known about these reissues. They MIGHT be worth it…every penny.
What a great collection of albums!! Personally, I’d love it if they were issued in LP sleeves..That would make me go over the edge and re buy them..will keep my ears pealed for my more release info..
I am also wondering what makes these worth the update. I still love my old Rykodisc Zappa collection (and what a collection it is).
Duane…no one knows yet. But the Zappa Trust is hinting at cool things.
Several of those are “Mothers of Invention” albums. Credit where credit is due and all that .
Also will they be ridiculously overpriced like “Bat Chain Puller” and etc?
Like ZPZ the ZFT is pushing FZ’s most earliest recordings. I prefer FZ in the early to late 70’s material.
I am really looking forward to these. If nothing else, I will fill in a few gaps. If the re-issues are worth it though, Frank and the Mothers are one legacy worth a few extra bucks!
But…What about Burnt Weeny Sandwich?!?!?! I was writing a list of my priorities and it was longer than the list Matt posted. Took a couple of minutes to realize I was assuming too much!
Will we finally, finally see a “proper” version of “We’re Only In It For The Money”?
At one point in my life I owned a vinyl copy of “The Worst of The Mothers”, but it vanished over the years. Would LOVE to see that re-issued…
Keep your fingers crossed. I hear (but haven’t seen) that Burnt Weeny Sandwich is going to be released as a DD (which might as well just be released as a CD too…right)?!
Oops! My Bad… What I REALLY want is “Mothermania- The Best of thr Mothers”…
Mothermania came out as a DD release last year, but I’m only interested in CDs so I didn’t buy it. I really want that one on CD too!
Are these straight reissues of the Rykodisc CD remasters which went out-of-print a couple of years ago? Or are these new remasters?
While you should take everything with a grain of salt, I do remember reading somewhere that they would indeed be new remasters.
Hmm. These are coming out in a few weeks, yet no one has confirmed them.. anywhere?? Retailers have yet to be solicited? This release just ain’t happening.
If Gail the Whale has indeed licensed these to another company outside of Ryko/Warners, or even endeavored to re-release these herself through the Trust, it’s highly unlikely to happen as she largely lost her claims against Ryko/WB and has no rights to these titles – which she sold to Ryko and has been trying to snake back ever since, using every crooked trick in the book.
The CDs Ryko released in 1995 were indeed FZ approved masters that he completed prior to his death exactly for the purpose of doing a broad deal that would keep his family provided for in his absence. That money is no doubt all gone. Gail has questionable motivations but I doubt even she would try to supersede Frank’s mastering choices.
The whole piece reads like a load of hogwash to me, but Gail is known to act on her own accord (despite the advice of those she pays to know better).
So, while you may have heard this from ZFT, it’s likely more BS from someone who pissed away $20 million and is gold-digging every dollar she can from her husband’s corpse – with decreasing degrees of success each time, I might add.
