Black Oak Arkansas, an Arkansas-based Southern Rock band formed in 1963 and then known as The Knowbody Else, achieved fame with a name change and a signing with Atco Records. Their 1971 self-titled debut rewarded the band with a Gold designation and seemingly unending fame for the next five years with a release of 11 albums during this peak period. They left behind quite a lively legacy with some legendary sets including High On The Hog (1973) and its well-known single, “Jim Dandy”.
On August 28, HNE Recordings (Cherry Red UK) will revisit the classic band with a 5CD box that will revisit the band’s first three studio issues as well as a previously released expanded and complete version of the band’s Gold-selling Raunch ‘N’ Roll Live from 1973 in two concert settings. (This 5CD set is the first in a series of Black Oak Arkansas catalog refresh offerings.) The box, to be called When Electricity Came To Arkansas 1971-1973. There will be two bonus tracks from the first album – the radio edit and mono edit of “Lord Have Mercy On My Soul”.
