When the music of the late ’70s began to change to that of the more basic, but more volatile styles, then a new wave of bands began to arrive. Many of them rode coattails of Punk and changed their music once in the eye of the public. But one thing remained constant: the music was a force that belonged to the time. One of the venues that helped give birth to that was CBGB. Owned by Hilly Kristal, the bar and stage was essential to the NYC scene that brought a wealth of heavy talent to the fore. With bands like Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith, The Dead Boys, The Dictators, Richard Hell, Ramones, and so many others, CBGB’s was THE hotspot in the city.
On January 30 of 2026, Cherry Red UK will bring an assembled 4CD Box that feature songs from the era of the venue. The Box is aptly titled CBGB & OMFUG: A New York City Soundtrack 1975-1986. The 4CDs in the box will contain 101 tracks, some of them previously unreleased on CD. The box will also pack in a booklet to bring more value to the box that remembers the period.
This 4CD box will be released on CD and DD.
