When Chicago Transit Authority hit the stage back in 1967 to overwhelming appreciation, it wasn’t long before their debut on Columbia Records would take the charts by the same storm of appreciation. Their debut album sold over 3 million copies worldwide, and maybe even more than that. By 1975, their Greatest Hits package sold a whopping 5 million copies in the US alone (10 million worldwide!). This package offering delivered 11 of their best tracks at the time. But for fans, favorites – STRONG favorites – were ignored due to constraints at the time that a CD would have avoided. One, for example, was the hit, “Dialogue (Pts 1 and 2)”.
On August 8, Rhino Entertainment will “fix” that with a greatly expanded reissue of Chicago IX: Chicago’s Greatest Hits. This new set will bring 21 tracks together from the period of 1969 through 1980. This expanded reissue will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the album adding songs that SHOULD have been there in 1975, and going a step further by looking at the next five strong years the band would have. And yes, “Dialogue” is included in this new package of Chicago IX: Chicago’s Greatest Hits – Expanded. There are no new remastering but the set will feature the last remaster of each song. The covers feature new artwork.
Chicago IX will be issued on CD, DD, and 2LP (pressed on black vinyl). So get ready to make this “correction” a perfect addition to your Chicago library!
