Tangerine Dream has a long history of ambient excellence, Their popularity periods are measured in label productions. For their most popular era, they were known as “The Virgin Years. The list goes on. Although the primary elements of the past generation are gone (Edgar Froese passed in 2015 at the age of 70, Christopher Franke composes solo work and is currently 72 years of age, and Peter Baumann does extensive work with his San Francisco-based think tank, The Baumann Foundation. He recently released a solo effort in 2025. He, too, is 72 years of age. Currently, Tangerine Dream is ably headed by Thorsten Quaeschning (installed and blessed by Froese), and rounded out by Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick. The trio continue to create new music and tour.
On June 27, Kscope Records will release a Limited Edition Deluxe Box of the live performances that the current line-up undertook to bridge the Virgin Years line-up with the latest. In 1974, Froese, Franke, and Baumann played a show in Coventry Cathedral. Nearly fifty years later, in 2022, Quaeschning, Yamane, and Frick returned to Coventry Cathedral and played a memorable show. The extensive Box will feature 3CDs and a Blu-ray disc to cover that 2022 show in its entirety and in various audio offerings that include Stereo, High Resolution Stereo, and 5.1 Surround. It will be called From Virgin To Quantum Years: Coventry Cathedral 22. This box will be further blessed with a 48-page hard-back book, and an interview (on the BD).
