Mike Oldfield gained critical success with his Tubular Bells set, an offering to the world that has aged as well as any fine wine. Following that effort up would be a challenge, indeed! In 1974, Mike Oldfield issued Hergest Ridge, which delighted many fans even if it did not have the same chart and sales success as its musical predecessor. Nevertheless, Hergest Ridge has lived in consistent appreciation and continues to do so.
On June 24, Mercury Records/UMR will revisit Hergest Ridge in a 50th Anniversary vinyl press that sees the 2010 Mike Oldfield remix of the album half-speed mastered for the first time on vinyl (for the 2010 remix). In addition to the LP which contains the 2010 remix remastered, the second LP contains the 1974 original mix remastered (2025) for this Half-Speed pressing. The 2LP set will be pressed on black vinyl. New artwork and new notes will join the beauty of the classic album on its 50th Anniversary celebration. Order yours here!
SDE will also be offering the set in a BD-Audio package that will feature eight mixes. Those will include the 2025 5.1 Surround, a 2025 stereo remix, and a Dolby Atmos remix. Also, a 2020 binaural mix, the 2010 5.1 Surround and Stereo remixes, the 1976 Quadrophonic mix, and the original 1974 mix. The 1974 demo of the album is packed in there, too. This issues on June 27.
