The Boomtown Rats, headed by Bob Geldof, existed primarily from 1975 through 1986. With a series of hits that included “I Don’t Like Mondays”, “Lookin’ After No. 1”, and “She’s So Modern” (to name a few of the UK hits), The Boomtown Rats quickly captured the minds and appreciation of the record-buying public. After the release of six studio sets during the first era, The Boomtown Rats closed the doors for quite some years.
Although this celebratory collection is still a ways off, I’m announcing already. On September 19 of 2025, Mercury Records will release a 27-track collection for CD and 24 track selection for LP celebrating 50 years of The Boomtown Rats. The set will be called The First 50 Years: Songs Of Boomtown Glory. This set will feature the songs that highlighted and represented the band in all their excellence.
The First 50 Years: Songs Of Boomtown Glory will be issued in 2Cd, DD, and 2LP packages. The cover presented is temporary and will be likely renewed at a later date.
