SACD enjoyed a strong emergence but faded after consumers realized that expensive extra equipment was needed to enjoy the expanded soundstage presented by the format. Nevertheless, the niche format remains alive due to the dedication of a strong market that allows for the format to continue to exist. Mobile Fidelity is one company that releases SACD titles alongside of audiophile-grade SuperVinyl LPs.
It was recently announced that MoFi would be reissuing two classics on both SACD and vinyl 180g-weight LP. For this set of releases, Mo-Fi has planed for the reissue of Jeff Beck with The Jan Hammer Group from 1977, and the Lou Reed concept album from 1973, Berlin.
Berlin will be reissued on SACD and vinyl LP with sourcing from the original master tapes. The LP itself had sourcing from the original 1/4″ master Dolby A tapes, to DSD 256, then to analog console to lathe. Each SACD and LP are limited and numbered (2000 copies).
Jeff Beck with The Jan Hammer Group Live is also sourced from original tapes and reprocessed for the highest quality on both SACD and vinyl LP. The SACD is limited to 2000 copies and the vinyl LP is limited to 3000 copies.
Both titles – along with two Joni Mitchell titles (Court and Spark, Ladies Of The Canyon) planned for SACD – are available for pre-order. Grab them here.
