The Animals were a part of the early years of Rock and Roll. With Eric Burdon, Chas Chandler (who went on to manage Hendrix, and Slade – passed in 1996), Alan Price (who released a number of solo albums), Hilton Valentine, and John Steel, The Animals released a string of singles and best-selling albums. Most notable are “House Of The Rising Sun”, “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place”, and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, from early album releases.
On May 17, Abkco Records reissued five albums to streaming services (easy, now) that will feature the emerging technology of Dolby Atmos, a format proving popular among sound enthusiasts. Typically, these Dolby Atmos mixes are also being released on Blu-ray discs for the stout-hearted physical media buyers but – for now – Abkco is releasing them only in digital formats. The albums include The Animals (1964), The Animals On Tour (1965), Animal Tracks (1965), Animalization (1966), and the 22-track ‘best of’ set from 2004 – Retrospective, all US versions.
It is too early to see if Abkco will be convinced to reissue these Dolby Atmos mixes on physical discs or if plans are already in place for a later date, but if you enjoy Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music for their high resolution digital audio, then you can access them now.
