When the breakups of supergroups Yes, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, it only made sense for the still creatively active members of those groups (and others) to form what would be called Asia. John Wetton had written a song, “Heat Of The Moment”, offering it to Wishbone Ash during his time with them (as the story goes). It was declined and John Wetton left to form Asia with Carl Palmer, Steve Howe, and Geoff Downes. The rest is, as they say, history. Asia went on to phenomenal success with the single, “Heat Of The Moment”, and “Only Time Will Tell” shortly afterward. Asia is now one of the great supergroup formations of the Golden Era of Rock and Roll.
On June 10, BMG Records will release a live set from December 6 of 1983 with Asia and their night in Budokan. The show was dubbed Asia in Asia and featured Greg Lake as a brief replacement for the departed John Wetton. The show will be released on a 2CD Box that provides new 2022 remastering to the performance tracks. The Box is being called Asia in Asia – Live At The Budokan, Tokyo 1983. The show was originally broadcast live from Japan to MTV.
The 2CD box will provide the US and Japan mix versions as well as the original artwork by Roger Dean. Asia In Asia will be issued on 2CD, DD, and 2LP sets. A BD package will be offered as well with the entire show on video (previously issued on VHS and LaserDisc). The Blu-ray will feature the original Japan to MTV broadcast and will also provide the LD transfer, both with the 2022 Hiroki Furutani remix. A documentary – The Road To Budokan – finishes the BD. The full box offers replica tickets, booklet, photocards, and color vinyl LPs.
