MusicTAP is very pleased to premiere the new single from Matt Tarka, “Postcards”.
If you aren’t yet familar with Matt, he’s a singer/songwriter, based in Lancaster, PA. After picking up a bass guitar when he was 15, he has aimed to share stories with a guitar and voice. He gathers ideas with notepads and tape recorders, and inspiration for songs and characters come to him while driving and in dreams. While live performances have been put on ice due to the pandemic, over the years, he’s shared the stage with such artists as Air Traffic Controller, The Ladybug Transistor, and Lowland Hum.
His latest single “Postcards” follows several years of successful EP releases (Surely Late (2016) and Vision Hazy (2017)) and critical acclaim working with frequent collaborator Ted Comerford (producer for Jukebox the Ghost’s hugely successful 2008 debut] at Low Watt Recording in Savannah, GA.
In addition, “Postcards” was mixed by the legendary Mitch Easter [R.E.M., Pavement, etc.] and features Fighting Gravity’s Rich Stine on guitar and Steve Julian from Colourslide on drums. This track follows three singles released earlier in 2021 (“Good Morning, Sympathy,” “Crowds” and “Heartbreak & Euphoria”)
Says Matt, “Pre-pandemic, I was perusing through various aisles at a flea market and became inspired by a batch of postcards in a milk crate,” said Tarka. “Many of them were full of altruism – letters to lovers with expressions of hope for tomorrow. Maybe one about a fun day trip to a museum or an amusement park. Others were full of worry, deceit and despair. In today’s chaotic world and a collective hope for brighter days ahead, sitting down to write and mail a postcard is such a wonderful display of affection.”
Take a listen and see what you think!
“Postcards” will be released on Friday, October 8th, 2021
