Back in December, Matador Records had planned a 5LP/1CS Boxed set of Gang Of Four classic-era EMI and Warner Brothers (US) music and albums that span from  77-81. Their first album, Entertainment! was issued in 1979 and did knock out work on the UK charts. That set was delayed. Now it’s time to bring that box out but also include it into the CD realm as well.

On March 12, the originally planned 77-81 5LP/1CS Box will materialize. It will be followed on April 23 with the CD edition Box.

The 5LP/1CS box of Gang of Four: 77-81 includes the first two albums from the band (Entertainment!, and Solid Gold), both newly remastered for this box. Also included is a 2LP set of the never released live package, Live at American Indian Center 1980, an LP of singles, and a C90 cassette (CS) with Side A containing early demos, and Side B containing Abbey Road demos. The cassette is home to 26 previously unreleased tracks. The box will add in two Gang of Four badges. The Box will also pack in a 100-page hardbound book.

The 100-page book will contain previously unseen  photos, commentary from the band members, memorabilia that includes full-color posters, flyers, and other things. Essays are included along with new liner notes.

The CD Boxed Edition will include all content EXCEPT for the C90 Cassette, and the badges. The material found on the C90 CS will be made available to CD Box purchasers via DD (digital Download).

You can hear the newly remastered version of “Damaged Goods” from the debut album as a lyric video, and the “Elevator” demo (from the ‘Early Demos’ side (A) of the cassette), all below.
