This came out of nowhere. MusicTAP has received word that Kim Shattuck, lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the band The Muffs, has passed after a long battle with ALS. She was 56.

Several of her peers have weighed in on Facebook and Twitter, and fans are in shock over her death…however, not surprised. Her fight with ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) was known to the public. Shattuck’s latest project, The Coolies, released a six-song EP earlier this year, with the proceeds from the EP going to The ALS Association Golden West Chapter.

Her husband posted the news on his Instagram feed (right) earlier today. Kim Shattuck leaves behind a legacy of punk-pop-alternative rock goodness. The staff of MusicTAP offers its condolences to family, friends, and fans alike.
