Since David Bowie’s death, there has been a rush of material, much of it early stuff that would be interesting to only the hard-core fan. But what many of us would love are remixes and updates to some of the classic Bowie releases. For me, I’m a fan of the early years up to the ’80s, and then again in the new millennium. But those early years were extraordinary and worthy of new revisitations.
On November 15, Parlophone and Rhino will revisit Space Oddity (the album with the changing titles, issued first as David Bowie in 1969, then reissued in 1972 as Space Oddity) as a brand new 2019 Tony Visconti remix. This album was last reissued in 2015 as a remaster. Tony Visconti has championed the new mix as something that brings out subtleties that weren’t heard as well in previous reissues or even the original mix, which Visconti felt was rushed.
With the 2019 remix of “Space Oddity” (the song, hear below), and “Wild-Eyed Boy From Freecloud” (single version) already in release as boxed 7″ vinyl singles, it was assumed Visconti had actually remixed the entire album, which we now know that he did.
This brand new 2019 remix version of Space Oddity (the album) will be issued on CD, DD, and vinyl LP. There is not a cover shot available…yet.
Yes, David is getting quite the attention. For me, I’d love to see Visconti revisit many of the early classics as remixes including the Berlin Trilogy (More Low, and Heroes, than Scary Monsters but still…!)
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) was not part of the Berlin Trilogy
