Fans of The Grateful Dead are really in a class by themselves. They celebrate all things of any facet of The Dead. And while music developed, recorded, and released by The Grateful Dead reign supreme on any meter, it goes without saying that released music from the band members are on a par not too far removed from the band itself.
Mickey Hart, one of two of the band’s original drummers (Bill Kreuzmann is the other), played with the band for two periods with only a brief hiatus between he two. Over time, Hart has released a series of albums that include Planet Drum. Planet Drum was originally released in 1991 and subsequently went on to win a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.
On December 2, UMe will reissue Planet Drum on a wide scale with planned reissues on CD, DD, and vinyl LP. The reason for this reissue is that this is the album’s 25th Anniversary. With this reissue, there will be three new tracks (“Sea Of Showers”, “Throat Games”, and “The Spot”).
As an aside, Mickey Hart, with his new affiliation with UMe/Verve, will be releasing a brand new album sometime in 2017. In addition, the catalog of Hart will be brought into the Verve household, which may result in a reissue to get the label brand on the CDs.
