Celebrating the 80th birthday of noted composer, Philip Glass, Sony Masterworks will be releasing a massive 24CD Box of every Philip Glass recording for Sony. And there are gems in here!

The Complete Sony Recordings will contain many favorites like Einstein On the Beach, Satyagraha, Glasspieces, Akhnaten, The Photographer, and more. It is too bad that many of his other classics couldn’t have found their way in such a lavish setting as this. This Limited Edition release will gift us with the first ever CD release of Glassworks – Specially Mixed for Your Personal Cassette Player. It will also present the 44-minute interview session with Glass found on Glassworks. The official Naqoyqatsi Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will also be included.

A bonus CD extra that contains recent recordings of some of Philip Glass’ works is included. What’s most exciting, besides the actual collection of music, will be the inclusion of a hard-bound book with liners notes, most written by Glass. In addition to the notes and expected photos, there will be a full breakdown of the collection, as well as a complete discography, and their accompanying notes and information.

All CDs will be housed in LP-styled cardboard sleeves with original artwork, and will be stored in a sturdy, library-worthy Box as seen in the press shot below.

The Complete Sony Recordings is on the calendar for October 28.

Also of interest for vinyl fans, Orange Mountain will be reissuing the Philip Glass + Kronos Quartet Dracula soundtrack on 180g-weight black vinyl. The new 2LP gatefold is the first time Dracula has appeared on vinyl. It’s scheduled for October 28. Only 2000 copies of this 2LP set will be available.
